BCFP Spring Training Preview NL East

Braves

Rotation- Kris Medlen, Julio Teheran, and Mike Minor will battle for the 5th starters spot in camp. Minor is the leading candidate and would have to pitch his way out of the spot. Medlen and Teheran could fill in for injured Tim Hudson who is expected to miss the first month of the season. Medlen's flexibility would make him the favorite as he could begin the season in the pen and make maybe two spot starts when needed. Regardless of who wins the job all would have fantasy value in 2012.

Marlins

Lineup- 2B/OF. Omar Infante, Emilio Bonifacio, and Chris Coghlan are battling for the final two spots in the everyday lineup. All can man both 2B and a OF position however considering CF is the position of need it would appear Coghlan would be the overwhelming favorite to win the job. Infante has had the better career than Bonifacio yet Emilio is coming of a very solid 2011 and will be the favorite to land the job leaving Infante in the Super Utility role.

Mets

Closer- Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch, Bobby Parnell, Ramon Ramirez, and Jennry Mejia all could be considered candidates to close out games this season. Francisco will likely get the first crack at the gig. Look for Rauch and Ramirez to battle for the 8th inning gig making them the de-facto next man up.

Phillies

Lineup- LF. John Mayberry Jr., Juan Pierre, Ty Wigginton, Laynce Nix, and Dominic Brown. All look to by vying for the lone spot in the Phillies lineup with question marks. The Phillies would love for Brown to take the job but he will have to leave no doubt this Spring to make the big league roster. Pierre is on a Minor League roster and could be the longest shot of the bunch. Wigginton will likely backup Polanco and cover 1B upon occasion in the abscence of Howard. Mayberry Jr and Laynce Nix figure to provide a RH/LH platoon of sorts with Mayberry getting 4-5 starts per week. 1B in the abscnece of Howard look for Ty Wigginton and Jim Thome to split time with Wigginton getting 4 starts per week more often than not.

Rotation- Halladay, Lee and Hamels go without saying. Worley would figure to be a overwhelming favorite for the fourth spot but in comes Joel Piniero. Piniero certainly isn't overpowering but he does have a track record of success. Also in the mix is Kyle Kendrick and the return of Joe Blanton. Blanton and Worley are the odds on favorite however a solid spring by Piniero could change that.

Nationals

Lineup- Do the Nats break camp with Bryce Harper playing LF? Without question the biggest question mark heading into camp would be CF for the Nats. Offensively Harper would be a upgrade over Bernadina however playing Werth everyday in CF may not be the best defensively or for Werth's well being. Nat's brass seem set on Harper starting the season in Triple A and it would seem only a special Spring would change their mind.
