A Tomcat in the rafters

The ADI broke the report, that one of Ashland's own would be getting honored down on the Bayou.

Ashland native, and 1960 graduate of Ashland,Dean Church will have his jersey retired to the banners at Louisiana-Lafayette , on February 25th, becoming only the 4th player in the school's history to have such an honor bestowed upon them.

Church was one of 4 Tomacats who played for UL-Lafayette in the 1960's, when the school was still known as Southwestern Louisiana and as the Bulldogs. One of which was Dean's older brother, Don. The team now goes by the Ragin' Cajun moniker.

Church was the school's first All-American(Small-school and NAIA), and he is currently 12th all-time at the school in scoring.

Church, who still resides in Louisiana, was also voted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 1981.
