Bummer. I was looking forward to a draft recap.
From my perspective.
- 4 beers
- 15 picks
- 4 hours
- 0 sandwiches
- 3 dirty looks (received)
- 2 valid arguements
- 189 invalid arguments
- 1 kicker
- 2 bets regarding kickers
That's pretty much it.
The highlight of the draft was Ev's seventh round phone call, in which he urged Rich Coleman to take the suprisingly-still-available Ike Turner. Sadly, this the only noteworthy contribution that Mr. Lemaster made all night, as his bitch ass stood up his fantasy brethren.
BBA's managed to be "that guy/team" and selected not only a DEF, but a K to boot (pun intended), both well before the 14th round and much to the chagrin of the commissioner. However, it was quickly pointed out that one of these two owners had been two the title game for two consecutive years, while the other has watched the game from the proverbial stands.
Other than TEN RB-Chris Johnson going with the first overall pick, not much else at the 2010 draft followed conventional wisdom. Top QB's and WR's seemed to dominate the early rounds, which historically have been dominated by RB's.
Two key factors figure as explanation for the change in draft trends:
1). A lack of healthy, dominant RB's who get the majority of carries is becoming a thing of the past, especially among top teams. In turn, wanna be contenders are following suit as the NFL is a copy-cat league, where what-you-have-done-for-me-lately has a a much greater bearing than how many superbowls our system won us in the 80's and 90's. As a trickel down effect, 1 RB becomes 2 who are now splitting time in the backfield and giving FF owners nightmares. One back is going to get the majority of 1st and 2nd down carries, while the other guy will be primarily in on 3rd downs and catching a lot of balls out of the backfield, which has a certain benifit to owners. The problem with the two pronged approach is that if you don't own both backs, you have a 50/50 shot and having an off week. If you do own them both, and play both you're really just getting the output of one back in the old system.
2). The new scoring system and addition of the flex position really increase the value of WR's. One could take the gamble of inserting a 3rd down back with the flex, but looking at the draft board gives the since that owners have more confidence in a 3rd reciever providing better scoring opportunities across the board. In other words, a WR is scoring with Rec's and Yd's where the 3rd down back will do the same. However, the WR will ultimately catch more balls and gain more yards outside of the top 2 or 3 backs who figure more heavily into there teams respective approaches.
More draft info to come...
The Chav
Good to see almost everyone. It was a little quiet without Andy it sure makes me miss him. Missed Chris too. I was sad I couldn't participate more but your kid only turns ten once. We really should get together more than just at draft times...once again that comment is directed to ALMOST everyone....Josh really enjoys you guys and I'm all about the parties. Kinda pissed off that Butch stood me up as I personally called to invite him :).
I would also like to thank Jesse for proving that he isn't anywhere near as smart as he thinks he is. The guy can't even tell the difference between someone trying to get something accomplished in a short, busy time frame and a dirty look. Those who know me would tell you if I was going to be a bitch to you I would have no problem making it obvious. However I think instead of you writing "whitty" little comments about my dislike of you and me finding it necessary to comment we could just agree you don't like me and I don't like you, and move on. We did a good job completely ignoring each other, lets keep it up.
Any of you guys feel like playing some cards anytime soon give us a call its beeen too long!
Ash
P.S. No need to call Josh, I'm not joking.
