finishing up the afc and other observations

finishing up the afc here and filling out the rest of the playoff picture, already we have the jets, paits, ravens, and bengals. the west sucks and other observations.

AFC

SOUTH

1) Indy Colts- head coach caldwell stepped into the job and won 14 games in a row. the team played just as well as they did for dungy. the offensive lineup reads like a fantasy roster. manning, wayne, clark, garcon, and joe "live and let" addai. if you dont know much about this team you dont watch football. one of the leagues most popular teams the colts were an onsides kick and a pick 6 away from being defending champs. i think they will not miss a beat unlike previous superbowl runner ups. the OFF should continue to cruise with a possibility of being better with advances made by garcon and spell RB donald brown. the line never lets up as it seems manning doesnt even have to wash his jersey after games. expect manning to be the top QB this year with wayne and clark catching over 100 balls each. if the run game can accompany the pass better then last year this team could be better. that is crazy.
the D is a tale of two squads, the colts w/o bob sanders and the colts with bob sanders. With sanders the D is scrapy against the run and ball hawking against the pass. if sanders can stay healthy for a whole season and he almost never has the D should be good enough for another playoff run. freeney and mathis get after the QB and brackett some how is getting better with age. the colts are as complete a team as there is nfl and if they won it all i wouldnt be surprised.
2010: starting out as the hottest team in the league 6-0 going into the break, finishing up 11-5 overall. getting a bye going into the playoffs i see one win in jan for the colts.

2) Houston Oilers, oh i mean Texans- the team that everyone says is going to breakout year after year but never really does continues on thier way of under achieving. the OFF is pretty good with schuab tossing it to leagues best andre johnson. pencil him for 100 rec. TE owen daniels made strides last year and should continue to get better. hes a red zone target that schuab likes. the run game was the reason for last years disappointment as steve slaton forget how to hold onto the ball and forgot to run forward on alot of plays, often on the same play. holler if you hear me rich.
the DEF is pretty good and should be better next year. they are looking smarter and smarter for passing on reggie bush for mario williams as williams was a pro bowler last year and bush didnt start. williams will pro bowl again this year. LB cushing and ryans are young and some of the leagues best. they will both have very solid years for this fantasy sleeper DEF.
2010: 2-4 before the bye, finishing 7-9 overall outside the playoffs.

3)Tennessee Titans- chris johnson is the leagues best RB. the line is good. this is thier offense. vince young had his best year ever last year but this year he will not surprise people anymore. i see a slight dip in his effectiveness. bironas should be a top 3 kicker this year. i think he will be the top kicker at years end. the DEF loses van den bosh and bulluck and is kinda rebuilding. they do have one of the best head coaches in football with fisher, this makes this team dangerous and could out perform my prediction of 3rd in the division.
2010: 3-5 going into the break, finishing 7-9.

4) L.A. Jags- oh they havent moved yet? oh. well maybe next year. i see a long year down in Jacksonville. MJD is the show and should have another great year. he is thier offense. he is awesome. garrard isnt a elite option but can have great games from time to time. sims-walker stepped up last year and had a great campaign. i see the passing game being able to atleast make it easier on MJD this year but little else.
the DEF is totally different from last year and should play better. however they are young for the most part and should be easy to pass on. the OFF needs tight, low scoring affairs and the secondary allows to much for this.
2010: 4-4 at the bye, 6-10 overall. LA fans can start getting excited.

WEST (sucks)

1) San Diaago Chargers- its rivers team for better or worse. hes one of the leagues best stat guys but i question his leadership at times as he seems like a crybaby who blames teammates. i like the targets he has in jackson and gates after jackson comes back from his, like, 3rd DUI. they move the ball well and if floyd makes a big step next year they could have a very dangerous passing game. the line is the problem here as the running game has taken a step back. sproles is a TD waiting to happen dispite having a questionable line in front of him. rookie ryan mathews should be good but the chargers lack a load carrier. kicker issues killed this team in the playoffs and should be a situation to watch.
the DEF should be good against the run and pass. if marriman plays better and antoine cason does half of what cromartie does they could be a top 7 or 8 DEF. luis castillo is the best player on the team. the team benefits from a bad division and they cruise into the playoffs with a record that is better then it should be.
2010: 7-2 into the break and finishing 11-5 overall. everyones superbowl sleeper falls short but does win one in the playoffs.

2) Denver Broncos- how can a team get rid of its QB and stud WR in consecutive years and not suffer. the OFF will really look bad for long stretches this year as marshall carried the load last year. i see the broncos relying on the big play too much next season. with knowshon and royal big plays will happen but they cannot be relyed on. the QB situation is interesting as they currently have 3. i see orton starting the season but if he struggles they will give brady quinn a chance. they drafted tebow to play him and i see him in goalline roles in a modified wildcat. over under 4 TDs for tebow next year. im taking the over.
the 'wink' martindale's DEF will be better next year with jamal williams at nose and the divisions best player elvis dumervil continueing to attack the run. throwing on denver is the way to beat them as the secondary reads like a 2004 probowl team, not a 2010 one.
2010: 3-5 at the break, 7-9 overall.

3) Oakland Raiders- jamarcus russell was a bad idea. it set the franchise back 4 or 5 years easy. mcfaddin also seems like he under performed a 1st rd selection but i think he takes a big step in the right direction this year. he will be spelled by michael bush and the two should both have better years. campbell to schilens doesnt sound like something they can hang thier hat on but the pass game should be better only because it was so awful. hayward-bay should have a better year this year if he is injury free. TE zach miller will love campbell in the red zone. i just dont think they will get there much.
the DEF should be better against the run and they are very hard to throw against with asomugha. they are younger and should have a good year. alot of 13-10 losses this year.
2010: 3-6 at the break, 6-10 overall.

4) Kansas City Chefs- jamaal charles will be the show on an improved OFF. his 2010 is a mystery to me but i do know that he will get a assload of carries. bowe should have a better year having chambers across from him for the whole year. haley should have the passing game more consistant then last year but i dont think they are a top ten bunch. overall the OFF should look better and will surprise some people.
the DEF is so young. they will play better then last year but they are talking about nfl experience more then nfl wins. this unit will be sick in 2012. berry, arenas, dorsey, flowers, and jackson are all young and talented, but mostly young.
2010: 1-2 at the bye, 6-10 overall.

other observations....

double play = coolest thing in sports

adam dunn is the best bat being talked about being traded. reports are that the nats are asking top dollar as they should. dunn has progressed into a star with a .280 35 hr 110 rbi floor. he might make the difference in a playoff race if traded but i think hes a nat to start next year.

one guy that will be traded is ted lilly. i really like lilly and hate to see him go but hopefully the cubs will get some value for him. i see the tigers, twins, and braves as good fits.

chris paul to the magic would be HUGE. lebron started a trend. look for stars to start going to other stars to win rings. melo will next year i promise.

charles barkley is the coolest guy in the world. video cameras should just follow him around.

women mma is weird

ready for UK's 8th championship next year, and 9th the next year.
